I've owned my 187 for over 2 years and have nothing but good things to say about it. Unless you plan to work with aluminum and would later need to invest in the gun/controller I would say this is just about the most any home would need. It will weld 1/4" all day long on a 30 amp breaker without breaking a sweat. My #3 bottle of c25 is still 3/4 full after many projects running at 15-30cfh....though mostly small volume projects.
dont regrett buying this one February 23, 2009 Eric M. Powers 1 out of 11 found this review helpful
though you need a 220 plug to operate the welder is great set up was tedious you have to push the gun in till it nearly touches the drive rolls. you will quickly find you will run through a roll of wire that hobart provides quickly.
